DIY Rocketeer
by Chris Hardwick on June 26, 2011
French animation company Digital Banana Studio made this tribute to the 20th anniversary of The Rocketeer–as nearly as I can tell–as a DIY TV pitch to Disney.
Sold! (But I don’t seem to work for Disney in any capacity)

That was pretty cool! Thanks for sharing, Chris.
I love The Rocketeer. I will be keeping the HD version they showed on SyFy last month on my DVR until Disney gives a BluRay. You think with the 20th anniversery AND Joe Johnstons very similar Capt. America coming out this summer, they would jump on this. Alas.
I would watch that religiously.
If you didn’t at least chuckle when he hit his head on the logo, I think you must be incredibly jaded, or a little dead inside.
The reveal of the hero was a little unsatisfying; I’d rather more suspense and less surprise there. But all in all very well done.
Chris was spot on, it really was pretty damn adorable. However, despite being a pitch at Disney, I don’t think the super-cute angle is the right way to go about with Rocketeer. I mean, yeah, the film, and comic, had it’s lighthearted moments, but at the end of the day this is about an American Hero during WWII. Somehow that and cute just doesn’t go together. Though, knowing Disney, they’ll reboot it and have him be the great, great grandson of Cliff Secord and he’ll zip around here in 2011-2012 fighting techno bad-guys. I could see them putting that alongside The Avengers on Disney’s XD channel. Still, I’d much prefer something set during the ’40s and a bit less diabetes inducing.
Am I the only one who read DIY Rocketeer and had aspirations of flying around?
Love dozens of things about this movie. Especially though, everyone remember Jennifer Connolly before she went on the Hollywood anorexia diet. So hot! Now, so emaciated. Come back big boobs and round butt! Thanks for the find Big C!
This former Finhead approves.

It was hosted by Kevin Smith. How awesome was that?!?
Joe Johnston, Bill Campbell and Rick Baker were there too!
Disney Fan club members got a shot at some cool schwag:

I was finding out about all of this as I was getting settled for Mr. Hardwick’s comedy stylings in Arlington.
Great animation! You should check out “Pigeon Impossible”

My brother-in-law wrote the score, and the story is great.
Awesome! Love the Rocketeer…wish Disney would make nice anniversary blu ray release for it.
Man it’s been 20 years… I was in highschool when that movie came out. That really makes me feel old.
I really hope this makes it! The Rocketeer is one of my all time favorite movies! Thanks for sharing this.
What an awesome piece of work! I loved the movie when I was growing up, and like everyone else, I wish Disney would give it a great Blu-Ray release. I would also recommend the original comics to anyone who’s interested. They’re by Dave Stevens, and they are amazing! IDW has been publishing the reprints and a new anthology series, and they are mad awesome.
If ticket sales (twenty years ago) didn’t matter as much like in today’s world where DVD sales do twice the business of the theaters…We would have had Rocketeer II. Cool CGI version though. I’d take an animated movie or tv series anyday! The Rocketeer Rules! Thanks for sharing Chris!
