  1. I can’t think of a way to remotely control an iPad, but what you could do is use the iPad as an external monitor using “Air Display”. This works over wifi, and can be used to mirror the desktop. This would let someone off stage use a laptop which would just mirror itself to the ipad.

  5. Your iPad solution you came up with would work . Another solution would be to have a laptop that the iPad is remote controlling, using something like LogMeIn or a VNC client, then when you scroll the laptop it would scroll on the iPad too.

  8. I’m pretty sure Jimmy Pardo has a remotely controlled iPad that he uses on Never Not Funny.

  16. Thanks for ruining phenomenon! i went to theatre twice, with two different people and i fell asleep both times. Anyway another great podcast, ed helms seems like an awesome person. I didn’t know he was a new york comedian, I wish i got to see him. I used to be quite a comedy nerd but i cant really afford it these days.(except for chris’ show in brklyn of course)

  17. Chris & Jonah: please duct tape the mic to Matthew Mira’s face a la Johnny Depp/Raoul Duke/HST in the wake-up hotel room scene in “Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas”.

    He talks. I no can hear him! Y U NO TALK IN TO MICROPHONE, MATT MIRA?! :(

    I would gladly deal with 50 table poundings next Tuesday, for a “talk in to the microphone” today. Ok that doesn’t really work, but you know what I mean. Please, just get him to talk in to the mic. KTHXBAI!! <3 <3 <3

    He talks into the microphone. That microphone in the radio studio is faulty and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s a facilities issue at the NBC/Uni bldg, and we’re kind of lucky that we get to use it at all. It’s not going to change until we build our own at Meltdown, which will take a little time.

  21. Chris – was wondering if you’re planning on releasing The Nerdist Way in audio form next year? I think it would be awesome to hear you read your own stuff.

    Also – to those that don’t like references to your earlier podcasts (noodle stories, enjoy your burrito, etc), their lazy asses should just go back and listen to the older podcasts like I did. Pffft.

Great, episode Ed Helms is a talented guy been watching him since he was on the Daily Show, am I the only one who confused him for Colbert when they were both on that show, I mean they both wore glasses and dressed pretty similarly, and also the hair was sorta styled the same. Maybe it’s just me. But great episode. I play guitar and piano, now I really want to learn banjo.

  25. If you iPad is jailbroken, you can connect to your device and control it from a computer:

    Veency

    I use the iPad LogMeIn app to control my computer from my iPad, but downloading Veency from Cydia lets me do the same process in reverse. Veency is a VNC server that allows iPad users to control their iPad with their computer – awesome. Getting Veency to work on your computer will require a desktop VNC program like RealVNC to work.

    Just because the microphone has issues doesn’t mean that you should not duct tape the mic to Matt’s face. You should want to do that independently of mic function. It’s just good comedy. Why not let the mic taped to his face host the show sometime? Alternatively you can tape a burrito to his face, also amusing.

  27. Listening to this podcast while driving to work, I let out a squeak of joy and clapped my hands with delight at the discussion of the French Fur Trappers (my absolute favorite KITH sketch). Total nerd moment.

    Another great podcast, Ed Helms seems like such a sweetheart!

  28. The Air Display is an awesome idea. I had thought of using Go To Meeting since you can view the SM’s screen and what they have on it. Glad to see that I wasn’t the only one who endeavored to help you guys create a solution while listening today. <3

I will second the GoToMeeting idea – though I’ve not tried it, they do have an ipad app, and lets not forget they are a nerdist sponsor! You would need a solid internet connection though, wouldn’t want it cutting out in the midst of the banjo fury…

  36. I LOVE that Punch Brothers and their Radiohead covers were mentioned on this. Thile, as well as the rest of the group, are such amazing musicians. I just moved to Oklahoma City and found out about nerdist. These podcasts have been keeping me entertained while unpacking everything. Also, rodeohead was fantastic.

  38. At points in this podcast Ed’s voice calls to mind Tom Brokaw.
    He should develop an impression if he doesn’t already have one.
