I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Just like Cole said: I just came.
This is super rad!!!!! loved it so much!
however indicating that the strange forgettable fleshy mouthed suit wearing monsters are the ‘Silence’ (much eluded to in S05) is more than a tiny spoiler … so ya know… thanks for that…sigh.
BBCA was actually running a bug during their Dr Who marathon yesterday promoting this podcast. It went by pretty quickly, though, hard to catch if you don’t record and pause it to check it out.
Does this spoil season five at all? I am a bit behind on who and am curious as to whether or not I should listen to it until I am done with season five.
Zach: the Q&A is pretty much spoiler free and doesnt delve into much specifics. Most of it is questions for Moffat (yay! he deserves the questions and kudos).
Quemment! So hey – I’ll buy the hype. I mentioned jumping onboard and consuming the Who-verse to my girlfriend. She knew enough to know that there are decades of history to this show. Question – where do we start? My understanding is there is a good launch point to jump in somewhere within the last decade. Where is the magical point of entry and onboarding?
-Todd
PS – Special request – Jonah should do a punk version of the quemments theme song…
Great panel, really good stuff. I loved the way Chris handled the nerd uprising at the end…as much as I can understand their excitement at the thought of meeting the actors one on one, it would have been really lame to have their last impression on the panel be whining. The first episode was great, and the cliffhanger was as cruel as I expected (in a good way).
Thanks for posting this as spoiler free I haven’t seen the episode yet and I was going to skip the cast when it came up on my phone but now I know I can listen worry free.
@todd Personally I recommend starting with Christopher Eccleston. Its pretty much a reboot of the show and will give you everything you need to know and walks you through the fundamentals of the DW universe. The production quality is more contemporary so that makes it easier to sit through until you have built an attachment to the characters. That will take you through the 5 current seasons and up to speed with everyone else. Then go back and pick up old episodes that expound on stories from the current show that strike your interest.
Chris is the Nerd Whisperer. ^^
Great panel and great questions!
Alright, alright! You’ve convinced me! I’m ready to start with Dr. Who! So, where do I start? 1963? 2005? Heeeeeeelp!
D’oh! Due to the Nerdist podcasts, I FINALLY picked up Doctor Who a month ago and ran through the 2005-2010 seasons, finishing just before the April 23 premiere of season 6 (thank you Netflix free streaming). And, I am D’ohing because I live in NYC and did not know about the Who screening until I heard about it on the podcast. Blast it!
On the upside, I already have tickets to see Chris in Brooklyn, so I have that going for me.
“Pandorica Opens” is actually the penultimate episode of the fifth series. “The Big Bang” is the last episode.
So…this may be a little late, and it might just be me, but it sort of sounds like the lady questioner named joy in the podcast may have let a tiny spoiler slip. Though this may be referring to something in a past season that i can’t remember.
Please, please, please tell me there is a video of this somewhere?!?!
