I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Currently listening this shall be great!!!
ooh, i dunno, i mean, recorded for another job? i dont know if i can place this in Nerdist Canon..;-)
I just wanted to say as both a young person (21) and a minority I love the Dean Martin roasts. I don’t care much for political correctness. Jokes like those are only offensive to me if they try to hold you to a personal characteristic.
Richard Pryor roast was good? Right?
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, so I hope I don’t come across as pushing aside the whole of what I’m sure is a very substantive conversation (as all your recorded conversations are), but I think you have a wonderful opportunity now to get Andy’s girlfriend, the brilliant singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom, to sit down with you!
http://youtu.be/KKB9Xrrp1cY Please just have a short look. I left a comment with a timestamp marking a good place to start, for your convenience. If you have the time, though, it’s worth the ten minutes.
Haven’t read yet but sounds like a great interview. Samberg is pretty awesome on SNL and with Lonely Island. I will feel some sadness though not getting to hear Matt or Jonah until Friday.
Chris, please add a stop in Philadelphia for your tour! Philadelphia misses you. That is all. Thank you.
Not a fan of samberg, actually i can’t stand him besides that impression of wahlberg he doees. But I’ll give it a listen
“Tonight on SNL!
ANDY SAMBERG!
ADAM SANDLER!
SANDY AMBERG!
ANGIE SANDERS!
AMBLY ANDBERG!
BERGLY SANDERS!
SANDY SANDBIRDS!
COLONEL SANDERS!
SAL AMANDERS!
”
*Laughs Quietly To Himself*
Every time I see his name, I think of that WKUK skit.
Anyhow.
Sounds like a good ol ‘cast.
I’ll give it a listen on my Phonograph.
Aww, I miss Matt and Jonah
Chris, please come to Anchorage, Alaska. The last cool person to visit our small town was Ira Glass, and that was over a year ago.
EYB!
Can’t wait to give this one a listen! Was actually anticipating the Doctor Who panel for today’s post, but it’s all good. Besides, I’m now assuming that because the panel was done after screening episodes 1 and 2, the podcast might not be released until after both episodes air in the US. Too much spoilery, perhaps?
just read the interview in wired and am now enjoying the podcast. what a pleasant surprise to learn how charming andy is in interview as he is hysterical in his comedic….ness.
another great interview!
I think my favorite thing about the Nerdist podcast is the variety. Between the wide range of guests you guys get, and the tangents the hostfuls can go off on…just amazing. Keep it up! PS Miss you Matt and Jonah!
One of the most entertaining yet!
Andy is such a great comic mind. I started watching SNL at tail end of the 90′s when I was 7. And I was seeing reruns of the SNL cast Andy had. But then I grew up watching Ferrel, Fallon, Fey and eventually Samberg. So glad you had him on. And I can’t wait for the new Lonely Island album Turtle Necks and Chains.
Chris, fantastic episode. I really appreciate when you and your guest really dig into the conversation. This and the Rainn Wilson episodes are prime examples.
Love these podcasts. The sincere honesty and casual conversation is what does it for me every time. Good job with the q’s Chris. You were ok too Andy
;-P
As always well done. There is one thing I happened to notice and thought I might bring to your attention. Either that kitten’s tail looks like Andy’s penis or Andy’s penis looks like a kitten’s tail.
Wow, alot of laughing in this episode, especially from Samberg. I guess someone has to cover for Mira’s award winning (2 Oscars!!!) giggle ^^.
Also, to comment on a recurring theme on the podcast: I don’t think ignore external opinions and “keep doing what you are doing” is always good advice. I mean for established comedic genius like Samberg or Hardwick its true, but constructive criticism is the lifeblood of the inexperienced. That said, random internet trolls are about as constructive as a black hole. Just note the special cases: pursue independence, avoid arrogance.
It was actually really nice to just hear you get invested into a conversation one on one as opposed to having four voices fighting to be heard. No knock on Jonah and Matt, those guys are great, but this definitely felt like an interview with more of a purpose than just riffing and that’s nice sometimes. Great job. Not saying it’s better than the usual podcasts or worse, just nice to hear a more focused interview. Thanks!
I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one that remembers Andre 3000 saying “The last damn time. Hey ya”
Good stuff. My friend tuned me into this site so i listen to it when I get the chance at work. Unfortunately all the videos are blocked. But keep up the good work and COME TO THE EAST COAST! Like the DC area.
I wish that Akiva and Jorma could have been on the podcast as well, but still a great one! Love TLI songs and can’t waiiiit for the new album.
What a great interview! I wasn’t expecting Andy Samberg to sound so serious but I loved both of your opinions on internet related media. You totally need to have the whole Lonely Island crew once the new album comes out!
Hey Chris, don’t worry about giving away a billion dollar idea. The cable companies having been working on “in-show” shopping technology for years. Keep up the good work.
This was an awesome episode. I liked the lonely planet stuff a lot, but did not know much about Samberg himself. He was very funny and quite thoughtful about his craft. It made for one of my favorite Nerdist episodes.
Andy says that when Lazy Sunday came out people didn’t really know about YouTube. In 2005?!
As someone above said, I also love Jorma.
What was the bed music in the very beginning?
Dana Carvey’s a good drummer too! :O
