I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Can’t wait to listen to this. It’s 4 am where I am and I should probably sleep but the nerdist calls.
Also, who wrote the description? Are they also on drugs?
Great show – thanks for my introduction to Mr. Kroll. I enjoyed the portion of the show where you discuss the mistakes young comedians make.
My Sting story – My 10-year old son heard him on the radio singning “Desert Rose” and commented Sting should take singing lessons becaues he “warbles” too much.
BTW – “Clambakes” rhymes with “pancakes”.
studio 60 was the shit. sorkin rules. reznor’s soundtrack was amazing.
I believe the “only in L.A. is a tar pit an attraction” joke is an Adam Carolla piece.
The tar pits bit is definitely an Adam Carolla rant.
You guys talked about that Carolla rant during your interview with Joel McHale.
My Great-grandmother (my mother’s mother’s mother) was once in the newspaper in Chicago because she had so many descendants. She had 13 kids, many of whom had many kids (my grandma had 9). The first year we had a family reunion (I was the youngest at only a few months old) it made the local paper because the party was bigger than the population of the town it was held in.
So yeah, Chris, I know what you’re talking about!
P.S. We’re German descent, not Italian. But we are Catholic, so I guess that’s the reason?
I live in Vegas and just the other day I was thinking about the weird trend we have out here where “celebrities” will be hired by a nightclub, which is then promoted all over town. (Not shitting on Nick, I think Bobby Bottleservice at Moon sounds like fun, if I was the sort of person who liked clubs.) There’s currently a billboard in town promoting Wilmer Valderrama at Tao. In the past I’ve seen other “come see a famous person!” nights hosted by people like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, etc. It struck me as such a weird and pointless connection, but maybe the demographic clubs are aiming for come out for these sorts of events? I won’t get into it. I’m the weird one who comments on/listens to podcasts, I can’t shit on what other people do for fun in my city.
(By the way, could not be happier to hear Nick Kroll on two podcasts in one day [CDR].)
Nick’s voice is a cross between Myq Kaplan and Eugene Mirman. Seems he kinda looks like both of them as well. Great stories about SNL… loved the episode.
Great episode, and very timely since I just got caught up on Children’s Hospital.
Just wanted to say real quick that I was in college from ’02 to ’07 and I would’ve absolutely gotten the Karate Kid reference so would most people I know.
Give our generation some credit. I’m pretty sure The Karate Kid was on TBS at least once a week from around 1989 to 1998.
My only familiarity with Nick Kroll is from his character as Bobby Bottleservice, so it was weird hearing him speak so articulately and softly while I had that picture in my head.
I enjoied this last podcast very much, especially I liked the reference to your italian heritage but that’s probably because I’m italian.
On big families:
My great-great-grandfather was the first Cavagnino here in Sardinia, he and my great-great-grandmother had 13 childrens, my great-grandfather had 11 children and my father wasthe 7th of 11 children and that’s from my father side of the family only; my mother’s family is big too (she is the youngest of 9). In my family the child production industry slowed down with my generation; all of my cousins except two are married with kids from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 5 kids. Family reunions are utter chaos but I think the more remarkable thing is the longevity not the numbers, my granmother turns 95 in a couple of months.
The college kids should at least know that they should try to sweep the leg.
So you guys all unbutton your pants when you pee? Do you stand while you wipe your ass too?
Love you, love the site, love the podcast. Listened to the podcast and watched Doctor Who for the first time this week-it’s been a great fucking week! This show+ talking to one of the guys from my fave tv shows The League + talking about one of my fave musicians ever-Trent Reznor= giant mind boner (since I’m a girl). I think you should try to get Trent on the show-that would be delightful. Anyway-thanks for an awesome show.
