Leaked Craig Ferguson/Doctor Who Tribute!!!
by Chris Hardwick on December 1, 2010
When I did the Late Late Show a couple of weeks ago with Matt Smith, Craig Ferguson had originally done a musical cold open tribute to the good Doctor to kick off the show. Minutes before taping the rest of the ep, he was informed that the network had failed to clear the Ron Grainer (who also wrote “The Prisoner” theme, btw) classic Who theme song. All seemed lost. Then Craig wagged a finger and said, “It sure would be a shame if that were to leak onto the Internet…”
So of course it happened. Thank you Internet! And thank YOU, @CraigyFerg!!!
(sung) “INTELLECT…AND ROMANCE…OVER BRUTE FORCE…AND CYNICISM!”

THAT. LOVE!!!
This is LITERALLY the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.
Awesome, please post the lyrics when they become available. Thanks!
Thank you Internet! That was wonderful and very cool!
So, glad this was leaked! Awesome job, and definitely thought the scarf was fitting on you Chris.
And THAT is why Craig Ferguson continues to rock it HARD. What a badass.
I can totally see why he wanted that to leak. That’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen that was Doctor Who related in a long time. Bravo!
p.s. Chris, I apologize—I’ve not listened to the Nerdist in a while, but this snag just got you some serious whuffie and I’m updating the podcast as we speak!
…that was sooo awesome!!!
Oh my gosh, thank you. I have been waiting for this.
It’s like Christmas come early!!!! There IS a Santa Clause and his name is @CraigyFerg!!!
Oooooh, it make my tummy feel all wiggly and funny. WIN.
Can I use this as a ringtone?
Even better this way. The forbidden is so much tastier. Thanks, chris. xx
@MagzHalo
Wow. That song really does sum up why I enjoy Doctor Who. What a great job.
Oh bless you Hardwick…
I’d given up on searching youtube for that…
genius. thx for sharing! the delorian hitting the tardis shirt was top notch too.
This is so awesome I can’t even……
This easily made my day.
That was fucking amazing! Loved that episode and not knowing what happened in the cold open has been eating away at my very soul…
ps EXTERMINATE!
That is awesomeness to the nth degree!!!!
I was actually searching for this on Youtube yesterday. Prayers answered!
Complete Awesomeness!
Ah, I’ve been waiting to see that. Catchy little tune, huh!?
Sheer GENIUS!!! That would’ve been amazing to see broadcast on TV. The whole show was this Whovian’s wet dream come true, complete with my favorite fellow Who fan, YOU!!
I saw this posted on facebook before I decided to wander over here. It’s fabulous!! Thanks for posting it!
My daughter & I already have a Doctor Who dance we do every time the show comes on. (Yes, I’ve made my kid into a huge nerd.) We may have to revise our dance, now! That was AWESOME! I don’t even like sci-fi, how did I get so hooked on the Doctor????
<3 <3 !
Made even more awesome by the fact that Craig lipsyncs so poorly to his own voice!
I had convinced myself that this didn’t really exist and that the whole thing of it getting pulled was a joke. Thankfully, I was wrong! This song will now be in my head all day and I’m okay with that.
It’s awesomeness is only surpassed by the awesomeness of actual Dr. Who episodes.
ZOMG so awesome! Hooray for leaks.
YAY!!!! *does happy dance* MY DAY IS OFFICIALLY MADE!!
I see a new T-Shirt slogan.
So did anyone else’s face melt like they’d just opened the Ark of the Covenant?
No one? Just me? Alright.
TO THE HOSPITAL!
“The triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and intellect” needs to be on a T-shirt.
The version with “The triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism” might sell slightly better, though.
Loved it! Americans may not know much about the Doctor but a bunch of us Canadians do!
Crap, I can’t believe I had forgotten to search for this! Gotta love those backup dancers.
I was so hoping it would get leaked when Ferguson said that. Yay it has and how brilliant was that! What a way to start the holiday season.
Awesome, plus the Orbital remix is always amazing. I wonder if Matt himself had any input that it should be the Orbital remix since he performed with them at Glasto.

Jill Ann “I don’t even like sci-fi, how did I get so hooked on the Doctor????” Why? One it’s pure awesomeness! Two, because when you watch sometimes you forget you’re watching a sci-fi show, because it is so brilliantly written.
Me, my wife, daughter, and son-in-law were in the front row at the taping of this show (16-Nov-2010). We had been primed by the warm-up comedian — Chunky-B — to be ready for a FANTASTIC opening (puppets, singing and dancing, etc.). However, Craig announced to the studio audience (about 105 people) one minute before the start of taping that the opening had to be scrubbed because the f***ing producer hadn’t cleared the Dr. Who theme song — Craig was not happy. After the whole gang taped the cold-open, he asked if anyone wanted to see the tape of the final dress rehearsal for the dance; we all screamed “Yes” (of course). So they played it on the studio monitors while we all laughed our asses off. It’s great to see it again!!!!
Ferguson you ROCK!!
Hey, a lot of us Americans know about DW. I’ve watched it since the 70′s (PBS). This was really fun!
I’ve watched this about 4,000 times, and I shall probably watch it 4,000 more before I start to get tired of it. “Intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism!” Indeed!
what does doctor who have to do with romance? anyone?
Multiple nerdgasm just completed. Now I need a cigarette. Thank you, Chris Hardwick. Thank you, Craig Ferguson. Ahh… Only six days in the Christmas Carol Doctor Who countdown remain…and it feels like an eternity.
Not usually a Fergie fan but that rocked. And whoever wrote that line ate all his poetry for breakfast :0)
PS – Ding, have you seen any of the reboots..? Maybe not…
