I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Yay love the podcast, never heard it before.
Listening to the other podcasts (only a few so this might be a non-point) you should get Janet on more, as well as Matt (quick check hints he might be on more but)
Lots of fun – now sub’d on itunes
Glad to hear Matt has been received well across the pond. Great interview, especially the opinions on American/British telly. Us Brits do get very possessive over our products… and to be honest with remakes such as Red Dwarf and Life on Mars, there’s no wonder let’s be honest!
He is AWESOME. Loved this.
Chris (and all podhelpers)! Thank you so much for putting this up as soon as humanly possible. It was a kind, kind thing you did. Great interview, and I hope you often have Janet on when you’re interviewing someone you both share love for.
As a regular Nerdist listener, I was delighted when I learned you were having Matt Smith on the show. But not as delighted as I am now that I’ve heard it. Great job all around!
P.S. Please have Janet on whenever possible; she is superb.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
i came.
A momentous achievement, Hardwick! Nice to see that Janet is sticking around, too.
Matt Smith liking True Blood is now my favorite fun fact about him (of about 3 I might know).
i am a HUGE whovian. And i have been on the edge of my seat ever since i heard matt smith was going to be on your show. I just finished listening to the podcast and it was by far the greatest piece of ear candy EVER.
Fantastic job! Molto bene!
I haven’t even listened to this yet and I already know this is your best guest yet! Holy Shit this rocks! I was right, you do know everybody.
I haven’t even listened to this yet and I already know this is your best guest ever! I was right, you do know everybody.
pretty much jizzzed my nerdy nerd pants the entire podcast.
this was such a treat – i listened to the whole thing on my usually short commute home (it’s not supposed to snow in Seattle).
Matt Smith seems genuinely nice, enthusiastic and kind of dorky in an excellent way.
Did you guys do this interview before, or after, the Ferguson show?
So Matt Smith likes True Blood! And chess! How is it possible to love him even more? Such a brilliant podcast, great job.
Never mind! I was listening to the podcast as I was writing that, and you answered the question mere seconds after I hit submit!
BRILLIANT!
Just wanted to respectfully provide some feedback and say that I don’t think having Janet on the episodes is a great idea. It may just be too many cooks in the kitchen, because it seems like there’s less Matt/Jonah in the episode.
Did anyone else fear that Happy Days reference would be about jumping the shark?
They actually did bulk-erase DR. WHO and much of the rest of what they broadcast on BBC back when, much as NBC erased quite a few TONIGHT SHOWs in the ’60s…both corporations failing to realize that there might be a repeat audience (or export potential), much less a home-viewer-purchase option coming in another decade or so…Massachusetts viewers in the early ’70s got to see Eastern Educational Network imports of the Pertwee episodes, as well as this UK comedy CIRCUS thing…and THE GOODIES and such…
Couldn’t disagree more with “Matt” above. FW That’s Worth. Varney has been very pleasant to audit on the ‘casts so far.
awww he likes some mothers do ave em:)
Chris! I’m so happy for you and Janet (and Matt) to get to meet Matt Smith. I love feeling your guys’ eagerness through my headphones
My boyfriend and I are living vicariously through you guys so you better take up that Tardis chess game offer!
Hey! Thank you, so much, for asking my question. I’m… Well, I listened to the podcast with some friends, you have no idea how happy you have made me. I’ve been really ill with a meningitis threat all week… Brought my mood back up. 2 things.
1, I’m a girl ;D
2, if you get in touch with Matt, tell him he should publish his fanfiction. It’s nervous first time, but he’d make for a lot of happy fans. Also Einsteen/Cleopatra is the most hilarious idea I have ever heard.
Not that anyone cares but American Football is a descendant of Rugby Football Union. Think of it this way: Rugby Football is to American Football, as William Hartnell is to Matt Smith.
=P
Thank you for the Podcasts. They are a great way to start the week.
If I may respectfully offer my opinion on inclusion of Janet into the podcasts. First I do realise you do this free, and thus you do what you want, that’s fair. This is your show, not mine.
The title of the Podcast, however, begins with ‘Number 46′. That means that there was rather well practiced group dynamic in your interviews, as you all had gotten better naturally by doing them. This of course tells also how good your podcasts are, if the major complaincenters on this level of finetuning.
Inclusion of someone swifts that balance and it will take time before one can really judge if it begins to work or not. In my opinion the podcast is not as smooth right now, there’s more of being fan, praise and how one loves someone in something. As everyone settles and gets their bearings again, this might fade away to previous level.
I would also like to say that I started watching Community because of your podcasts, so praise and fandom is not a bad thing per se. But there’s something off for my taste right now, lately I have not finished listening to the podcasts, and that’s a first.
Chris, you were brilliant!
Matt M., you were brilliant!
Matt S., you were brilliant!
And Janet, oh! You were! MUAH!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I think Unseen Academicals By Terry Pratchett might help Nerds and Geeks appreciate Soccer and Scott Sigler’s The Rookie (http://www.podiobooks.com/title/the-rookie) for American Football.
Billy Flynn (Geek Radio Daily podcast) mentioned that everyone loves the Doctor who they started watching the series with and at least at first don’t like the one who replaces him.
Of course all of the new Doctors are almost as good as Tom Baker the Doctor when I started watching on PBS
less shows are perish like Firefly ! love Joss Whedon
Matt S your Amazing as the doctor so thank you for making me fall in love with doctor again. I was a huge David fan, and kinda hated the idea of you at first .So thank you
and to the podcast cast I had no idea about this
. I feel like I need to get caught up. I love you guys Chris ,Matt and dammit Janet thank you thank you THANK YOU
WOW!
You should really be proud of this one – Matt Smith has been interviewed umpteen times in the UK on promotional shows, not to mention the exhaustive “Dr Who Confidential” behind-the-scenes show that follows every episode, and this Nerdist appearance has got to be the best interview he’s done yet. He’s very forthcoming, confident in sharing, and he provides amazing insight on his attitudes on the character, the show, his collaborators and of course the Mighty Moffat.
Well done, Nerdists! Congrats.
I loved how Steven Fry is mentioned with such reverence, in hushed tones. Everyone acts like he’s some kind of Earthbound deity. So awesome! He’s like the British version of George Carlin and he’s not even dead yet
Very cool to hear the he’s also a Who fan
Janet is a great addition. Thanks Nerdist
Thanks for a wonderful podcast. Matt Smith is a delightful and hilarious guest, and love Janet on the show too!
Now…if Steven Moffat do a Nerdist podcast anytime in the future, I think I can die happy!
I just love Matt Smith as the Doctor! Cannot wait until the Christmas special!
Matt Smith WOOT
Hi big fan, loved the show with matt smith. Love all the shows you do its awsome. Be that as it may im in a pickle. Im looking for a Tardis for my fiance for chrismas. she will flip shit if she has one to put on her desk. is there any particular place you recommend? That applies to everyone thats reading this also if theres a place i could by one thats NOT ebay itd be much appriciated. Please email me. Thanks much and happy holidays.
Brian
Chris you made a terrible mistake with this podcast. It was far too short.
To that Antti fucker who was pissing on Janet being on the podcast and messing up the dynamic. Quit being such an asshole, an extra person on the podcast every now and then isn’t changing things that much. Maybe she kinda made Chris include her and your gonna cause him flack or she is just a big fan. Either way shes hot, funny and Matt said she was lovely when he was on Ferguson. If the Doctor approves who the FUCK are you to Judge!!!!!!!!
Pudden pops.
My love for Who has inspired me to actually listen to your show again. Bravo.
Hubba. Hubba. And the accent? WOW.
Squeeled with delight when I heard the introduction of this podcast. I saw the name on the list and doubted it was possible, but alas! It was Dr. Who!
Thank you for this one.
HI! I’ve never heard of this podcast until Whovien.net on facebook posted a link. HUGE american doctor who fan!
Jon Pertwee IS the only Doctor!
But anyway yeah, Matt is such a great guy, and such a mind-blowingly great actor. I was really pleased to get to listen to this, thank you so much Chris and everyone on the show for asking Matt great, engaging questions and really getting a good conversation going with him. So often it seems like the actor is ignored for the role or the prestige, where he’s just invited on to sit there and draw viewers. Here, however, there was a healthy bit of stimulating conversation and a great opportunity for his fans to get to know more about HIM and what’s going on in his mind as he’s bringing this beloved character to life. Thank you.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. What a cool guy he seems to be. It’s cool to see how much of his own personality he’s already brought to the role of The Doctor. So much fun. Thanks a bunch!
Listening to this quite late, but it was absolutely a brilliant interview. M. Smith seems like such a genuine guy, and always apologizing for thinking what he’s saying is vain. And loves Chess? <3
