Good points, Tara. I liked "The Big Bang" because, even though it didn't make much sense, it didn't take itself too seriously in the process.

That's absolutely true about 5 and 6 and is probably why people didn't like C. Baker very much at first. After watching the "Doctor Who Confidential" about "End of Time pt 2" I've lessened my stance on the slap in the face. Tennant seemed keen not to overplay it and be too emotional, which I respected.

Er...so you didn't like finales that didn't make sense, but you liked the one finale that made even *less* sense than the rest of them? (Now, don't get me wrong, I loved The Big Bang and thought it was immensely fun, what you can't exactly say about it is that it has a strong basis in logic.)

I think considering "I don't want to go" a slap in the face of Matt Smith is an incredibly over-sensitive way of looking at it. Now, if you want a regeneration line that's a slap in the face of the other guy, you have to go back to the Fifth to Sixth Doctor regeneration, where Six sits up and says, "Change, my dear, and not a moment too soon." Wow...WTF? That definitely felt like a "Well, that guy sucked! Thankfully I'm here," spitting all over Davison. Mind you, it does kind of fit with how much of a jackass Six was in his television incarnation. Thankfully his audio play version is much less of a douche.

Man am I alone in thinking the season finale kinda blew? Seemed like a case of writing yourself into a big mess just to get the audience under you spell, then forgetting that shit actually had to make sense and stay powerful through the final episode. Which it did not.
And the giant painful cop out of the Doctor freeing himself from the future by telling someone else how to do it was a bit insulting the viewer. How can we ever get concerned for the Doctor now that they created a way for him to just save himself from the future?
I was stoked about Moffat stepping up this year, but I think the overall arc of the season was less than impressive. The sloppy finale was not the a+ Moffat work we've seen in the past.

I don't quite understand the Tennant's doctor became a douche bit. He won most of the battles and even managed to right some of his wrongs. That creates ego. He began to believe he could do anything. He even declares it and then someone sets him right. When he says I don't want to go I took it as apology and regret.

If we had access to a time machine we would all have our "A-hole" moments. Isn't that what makes this version of Who more interesting? A central character that has dimension and faults? And sets that don't move when someone closes a door?
Or maybe I am misinterpreting comments. That happens.

Take a look at this timeline for The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang. (It's not mine, I saw it on another forum.)

I know this is an article about finales, but some context could have put in regarding Tennant's increasing douche factor. In the specials between season 4 and End of Time he embraced his inner A-hole by thinking he could save everyone and anyone regardless of the consequences.

I also don't think the "I don't want to go" line was a slap in the face to Matt Smith. The guy just wanted to have some more adventures, imo. I never watched the earlier series, so I don't know if all the previous transitions were as pleasant as the ninth to the tenth doctor. I'm no fanboy of Tennant's, but I kinda see what Davies was going for when he sent him off.

Besides, who wants to lose that "gorgeous hair" that many have praised over the years?

"Matt Smith basically just rules" <--- exactly.

Thanks for the great series recap - my husband and I just did the entire new series in about 2 months and I can't believe I am "out" of new Who. Thanks for feeding my Who craving for a little while longer.

Well, I bet the scientist haven't thought of a Dalek invasion as a possible reason for the bees leaving. Maybe Russell T. Davies is a prophet.

Love the new Doctor. Hoping the rumors are wrong and he'll stick around for a few seasons.

How about a review of the new Sherlock Holmes? I liked the first episode despite thinking the lead looks too young. Or maybe that's just me getting older. Crap!

Enjoyed the Doctor Who finale revisit. Think I'll have to add some to my queue.

Thanks,
