I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

omg! thank you thank you thank you thank you!
damn almost first, buuuuuuut that wowsome!
VERY FUNNY!!!!!!
I feel like Schrab would be a good director for Me, My Mom, and a Monster. I also feel like it’s the best idea for a show ever.
The bammer! I haven’t listened yet and I can already tell you with certainty that this is the best show yet.
YES!
i am so happy about this.
what an awesome way to end a great weekend and get ready for the short week.
hooray!!
xxox
Very hilarious!! Everyone should hear this!
An episode with THE WORLD’S GREATEST COMEDIAN? Yes, sir.
If I had the money, I would give as much as I could to make that Me, Myself, and My Monster happen. It would be amazing.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Love me some Bamford!
OMG YES!!!!
thank you hardwick!
All is right in the world when Bamford (let me echo WORLD’S GREATEST COMEDIAN) and Hardwick combine.
god DAMMIT! I want to be part of Fancy Farts.
love the podcast. love the bamford. the 2 together, just glorious. thx hardwick.
I fucking loved this episode. and Jack Rapeington? Fucking brilliant.
Having now heard the show, I want to add that your “nerdsourcing” idea is brilliant. A dude with a medium-sized legion of like-minded fans could make some positive changes in thishere world.
I’m not sure how I’m the first to say this here, but regardless:
Let me be the first to say – Buy Maria’s new DVD. It’s called “Plan-B,” and it’s probably the single most impressive comedic performance I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Just do it. I got my copy at Amoeba in Hollywood. Nerds, do this. Make it happen for yourselves.
I support you in this endeavor.
This made my day
The Bammers is the best
awesome show! thanks!!
I will always ♥ Maria Bamford..
Loved the episode – I love hearing more and more of Maria unscripted and “real.”
Question: If reading fiction is a waste of time, do you only watch documentary films? Hmmm???
Signed,
Increasingly Irrelevant Fiction Writer
God Damn you, Hardwick, you’ll be hearing from my legal team!
Make the show! Make the show!
Saw her in NY last month. Very wonderful, awesome, great, I was snorting and crying (with laughter).
This podcast took up 69.655 MB on my RSS feed. It’s 11-thousandths away from the number of the beast….a sexy beast that is.
If you’re serious about nerdsourcing a show for Maria Bamford I’m in!
I found Maria’s voice to be very irritating. The words were fine, but the voice she used for most of the cast I really didn’t like. I don’t remember having a reaction like that to anyone else on a podcast.
I downloaded. I listened. I experienced elation. Thanks for not editing out the “doorbell/arrival of the new neighbor” surprise — I thought that was great! I loved the improved bit about diabetic deitys, and I also love the ideas of Nerdist TV and “nerd-sourcing.” Make it so!
Oops — “deities,” not deitys. I am ashamed…
Jim: Be not ashamed. You are loved here.
Nick: Excellent point. I’ll read more fiction.
Rapington: No means NO!
MAria is so funny, but sooo hard to listen to. The Molested as a child voice is more than I can take. The first 5 minutes was great, though.
This was my favorite podcast yet. I’m so glad to have found your podcast Chris, and if you need any help with the Nerdsourcing website, I’m a 100 percent willing to help in anyway. Which I’m sure with your fanbase here you’ll be in no short supply, but just figured I’d let you know since I’ll be utilizing it to when my projects out of development stages. Much Love!
I was at the motorcycle rally show she did. Effing hilarious, but the crowd reaction was very mellow. It was the “Very Boring” rally after all. I loved her, but she declined my invite of joining me in my bivy tent.
I could listen to Maria Bamford all day long. I wish we knew which comedians were gonna be on the show, because I would love to know if her mom really does the letters on her web site.
This was an awesome show, and I’m really looking forward to nerdist TV!!
Hey Chris,
I’m working in film and TV and LA and would love to get in touch with you about helping out with Me, My Mom and a Monster or any other nerdsource video projects you’re thinking of getting together. Can you get in touch with me via email? Thanks. Love the podcast!
Matt
I’m glad Nick made that point (and that it was taken)…further–are comedians required to only tell the absolute truth? Would that be less “a waste of time”?
Excellent interview, and I hope you not only swing the video production (I’m in for crowd/nerd/fan-sourcing), but that you all convince Bamford to not toss her notebooks…if she’s not too freaked by the notion, her notes/creative process are going to be historically valuable. Hell, already are. (I’ve made a not too weak case on my blog that she is as comparable to Lenny Bruce today as we have, and at least one of you made some similar observations w/o the burdensome comparison during the discussion. )
And if you answer the doorbell, clearly we are offered Dave Matthews…I will withhold further comment…
Todd Mason, former Kailua, HI resident…but had a somewhat better time of it as a several-year teenage haole than your quasi-kama’aina colleague did…but the hassles other, usually paler Caucs get are certainly intesified for Portuguese-Hawaiians. Kinda like how Everyone gets to dump on the Polynesians, and they tend to be cranky about that.
…and since I am 104 yo, I did see all five minutes of WIRED SCIENCE, not least because I do national and some local schedules for PBS and other public broadcasting, including Maria Bamford(‘s voice) on the rather clever WORDGIRL, for a variety of web and other entities…
Very funny and insightful. Thanks! This is the best one yet!
Just heard the podcast and I’m very interested in participating in the nerdsourced show/pilot. I’m an assistant editor/editor with experience cutting reality based programming and music videos.
Please hit me up if you guys move forward on this.
Huge fan and huge nerd – absolutely love Maria. Too far away to help in any physical way with any nerdsourcing, but I’m a damn good programmer (no web stuff, but all kinds of other crazy number crunching/text processing/database hacking). So, if you need anything like that… Eric in MN
Maria Bamford episode won’t download to iPod touch, just so’s you know. Grabbing the mp3 and listening on laptop, but sooo wanted to listen in my car on the way to work, cuz she’s my fave standup EVER.
)
So where may I purchase a Me, my Mom and a Monster shirt, so that I might contribute to a show that NEEDS to happen?
Oh, and one Chris to another, I think you are awesome. Please make another h n p record.
And Bamford may be my favorite comic, too. Her bit political speeches is amazing.
Ok, I’ll stop posting.
Crash into me, Maria!
Is it just me…or should you and Maria go on a date?
Love your podcast, hilarious episode as usual. You should definitely try and have Louis CK on the show, that would be awesome.
I don’t read fiction as a rule, but i do read everything scott sigler writes…I actually really enjoy his free audiobooks on itunes.
Great show! Hey, if you are still looking for a venue in Eagle Rock, there is an awesome buidling that has a stage and good size hall.
I’m a new listener on the other side of the planet but props to Chris H for doing such a great interview with the wickedly smart and awesome Bammer!
It’s great to hear that Maria is still keen to perform for all of her Aussie fans and it was disappointing that she cancelled the Melbourne trip this year but now I know that it’s because none of her friends would accompany her. She was a hit on national network TV last time she was here and many of us assumed that she would go back to LA, get her own TV show and become a superstar.
I’m lobbying more US comedians to come to the comedy festival next year…Greg Behrendt was great this year but we need more of the LA crew to give some balance with all of the Scottish & Irish comics that seem to always turn up.
