Nerdist Podcast #15: Rob Zombie

by Chris Hardwick on May 10, 2010

Number 15: Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie just got rid of his Motorola Sidekick, Chris is “Engineer #2″ in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Jonah watches “The Little Chocolatiers” and Matt wants to touch the Dave Matthews Band’s boobs.

Hopefully Rob doesn’t mind that I burned the podcast logo into his forehead in the above picture.

Me Rikey! Hey Chris you should see if you can interview someone from The Big Bang Theory. :)

Isz May 10, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Dammit, why didn’t you post this while I was at work. I enjoy the show, but I enjoy it more while getting paid.

FrankLemonjello May 10, 2010 at 7:51 pm

I am super-stoked for this episode. I’ve been waiting for this one. Loving the shit out of the podcast. It’s become one of my weekly joys.

Mia May 10, 2010 at 10:27 pm

Hey, love the podcast, but I was just wondering why you chose to not use video. You all are good looking men, so why not utilize yourself and add video? Don’t worry, I’ll keep listening no matter what. I was just spit-balling. And I would genuinely like to know your reasons behind doing only sound. Thanks.

You’re amazing.

SK May 10, 2010 at 10:58 pm

Wow, this was the first time I’ve finished a podcast and immediately thought , “I wanna listen to that again!”
Love this, it makes the start of the week significantly more awesome.

I’ve got to agree with Mia, video would be excellent. Though I’m guessing technically a bit harder to do? It would be cool though, someday… plus then I might actually be able to tell Matt and Jonah apart.
But yeah, fantastic as always. Thanks!

Chris Hardwick May 10, 2010 at 11:24 pm

Thanks peeps!

My reason for not doing video is partly technical (it’s a pain in the ass)
Partly logistical (we’d be less free to go to people)
And part respectful of my guests (not everyone feels like being taped; there’s less pressure if they can just roll in and not worry about being seen)

Maybe someday we’ll do it as a special, but prolly not just yet. Sorry bout that!

Deltus May 11, 2010 at 5:29 am

Rob really needs to look into a more rigorous skin care regimen…

Patti May 11, 2010 at 7:17 am

Thanks for explaining about not doing video, Chris. I do like the freedom both you and your guests have to just let it fly as far as language is concerned. The internet is a wonderful thing. No censoring necessary. This was a great podcast, btw. Thanks for doing these, and you’re not phasing yourself out. :p Do not ever stop doing podcasts!!

Chase Roper May 11, 2010 at 8:39 am

I can’t wait to expose my ear canal to this podcast.

Rick May 11, 2010 at 8:42 am

OMG YES!!!!
thanks chris!

Matt Storm May 11, 2010 at 8:52 am

Awesome podcast! Was great to hear you and rob riff about the early mtv stuff! I was just curious about when we might hear more about the whole contributor thing? (I figure you got a metric crapload of submissions so it’s gonna be a while but I was just curious)

indie May 11, 2010 at 9:56 am

thanks so much for this. i love that you guys are friends. rob’s such a cool, funny, interesting, smart guy. and you are the greatest.

whitepowdernotwhitepower May 11, 2010 at 12:10 pm

You really should make a comedy album, except for a couple bootlegs and the comedy death ray comp theres not much out there. It’s all really funny though. Anyways awesome podcast keep ‘em cummin. ewwwwww.

smartbunny May 11, 2010 at 3:11 pm

I love hearing about House of 1K Corpses. It’s one of my favorite horror movies of all time. Blair Witch Project brought horror back, IMO, and Ho1KC helped as well. For a long while movies were not scary at all.

Dave May 11, 2010 at 3:30 pm

I kid you not, the moment Jonah began to reference little people, I passed by a little person couple on the street this morning while walking to work! Needless to say, this podcast runs my life.

caleb May 11, 2010 at 4:43 pm

i’m having a total brain fart right now – Chris, have you done the CDR Radio podcast yet? Not sure if that’s really your thing or not, but i bet it would be fun and hilarious.

TC May 11, 2010 at 6:18 pm

That is some pretty inspiring stuff that you guys are talking about, and as someone who is trying to *make something*, it rings super-true.
I grew up listening to White Zombie and this is the first interview I’ve heard with Rob. It’s reassuring to hear that he sounds like a 100% awesome guy. Thanks for the podcast, Chris Hardwick!

Nate May 11, 2010 at 9:56 pm

Hey Chris,
I absolutely adore the podcast. I noticed that in the first 10 or so podcasts you made at least a passing reference to Doctor Who. I am a MASSIVE Who fan. Have you considered doing a Doctor Who related episode? John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harkness) is doing Desparate Housewives in the States…possible guest? Anyway, I would love to hear the opinions of a fellow fan of the show that lives in America. Being the only fan in the tri-state area (North Dakota resident), I don’t get a chance to discuss the wonderful world of Doctor Who. Looking forward to further casting of pods.

IncorrectSyntax May 12, 2010 at 5:46 am

Finally got to listen to the whole podcast. I have to agree with Rob’s statement that creating art is good reason to live. I sit in an office all by myself creating mind numbingly boring reports for stuff that doesn’t even pertain to what I’m doing.

I also didn’t realize how awesome and cool Rob Zombie is. He seems like a down to earth person. I’m definitely a fan now.

CT (from Nerd Lunch) May 12, 2010 at 8:41 am

Let me sort of piggyback on what IncorrectSyntax just said…I’ve never been a fan (haven’t disliked, just haven’t followed) Rob Zombie. This podcast has inspired me to change that attitude. Another excellent show, Chris. The worst part about it was all the times my coworkers kept interrupting me while I was listening to it.

Etiquette Bitch May 12, 2010 at 10:43 am

Request that the nerdist 1) get right into it 2) display running times. Thanks!

swood May 12, 2010 at 1:25 pm

I’ve listened to all the podcast’s and I liked the one’s with the comedians but the last three, Muppets/Stan Lee/Rob Zombie, have been the best. Keep it up.

Joey May 12, 2010 at 7:06 pm

Guys this podcast was smart, funny, and informative. My three favorite things. Also, just really great advice for people who are looking into breaking into something creatively. That is, just go to it. Stop having excuses why not to do it, or looking for advice how to break into it. Because like Rob said, they people who are going to be good doing something creative, are already doing it. Sweet advice for me anyways. And now I just realized that all of that sounded vaugely sexual so I’m going to stop now. :)

Casey May 13, 2010 at 7:00 am

Hey Chris! Yet another great interview. Talking about doing what you love is quite inspiring, hence why I am writing you. Myself and two friends have developed a web comic that is now a year old. It is very random humor that I think you might appreciate. We would love to know what you think! Thanks!

You ROCK!

This was great.
Chris, you have the most awesome friends!

somegirl May 13, 2010 at 10:01 am

captured by robots still tours, i saw him (them?) in october! in fact, there’s a show on the 23rd in los angeles.

Daniel Lynch May 13, 2010 at 7:16 pm

This was one of my favorite episodes, and I’ve been listening since day one. Keep it up. And… Who the fuck don’t you know!?!

Sedgeman May 13, 2010 at 7:17 pm

Rob Zombie sounds so much like George Clooney, it’s uncanny. Don’t know if I’m the only one who’s noticed this.

quantum&tangled May 14, 2010 at 6:45 am

It’s extremely cool to hear someone who knows you so well talk to you about you and how you have evolved as a comedian.
I remember laughing at your snarky commentary back in the days of Shipped Out and thinking “there’s something else there.”
Thank you for giving us this podcast and giving us a view into WHY we like you.

jessi May 16, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Awesometastic! The podcasts just keep getting better and better. Thanks for making Tuesdays something I look forward to!
Unsolicited suggestion for next interview: Nick Swardson!!

Deb in Seattle May 17, 2010 at 11:21 am

Hi Chris,
Great podcast! I’m not a follower of Rob Zombie but really enjoyed the interview. Would be great to see a picture of you and your guest each week. I loved the Stan Lee picture! Love all of the podcasts, keep it going! Thank you!!!!

Julie May 19, 2010 at 12:46 pm

Loving your podcasts. Not relevant to anything but Rob Zombie voice sounds a LOT like Dennis Leary.

Bryan June 30, 2010 at 7:24 pm
