Nerdist Podcast #14: Stan Lee

by Chris Hardwick on May 3, 2010

Number 14: Stan Lee

This Q&A style podcast was recorded at the NAB Show in Las Vegas on April 14th in front of many fans. As a True Believer, I was already excited to “listen up” because Stan Lee is fifty kinds of awesome. I was even more delighted to learn that, in person, he is FIFTY MORE KINDS. I absolutely loved every second I got to spend with him.

Please to enjoy!

This one has to be the best thus far. You and Stan had such a great chemistry. It was great to listen to and there weren’t any weird pauses or anything. Great job. Keep it up! :)

Holy crap, this was fantastic. I was never big into comic books, so I did not expect to love this as much as I did. Stan Lee is *delightful*, what an awesome guy. You were a great interviewer, which I believe the man himself pointed out. This podcast seriously just keeps getting better and better, great great stuff.

I dunno if it’s available elsewhere, but if anyone wants to see video of the interview you can plug in “NAB Stan Lee” into a youtube search. At least one person recorded what looks like the whole thing.

I enjoy Stan’s voice from when I used to watch the Spider-Man cartoon on tv back when I was a kid. And yes, I’m dating myself.

Between this and the muppet podcast, you’ve silently shifted in to a very high place on my podcast anticipation queue.

Great job, and keep the hits coming…course, short of Steve Martin, I can’t see how you can keep increasing the cool factor of your interviews, but I have faith.

Great stuff! Thank you Chris and Stan!

Jesse May 4, 2010 at 7:18 am

Excellent episode Chris. Keep ‘em coming!

Jeff the Great May 4, 2010 at 9:38 am

This is so amazingly awesome. Chris gets the greatest guests. On my podcast I get my brother over, and over, and over, and over.

FANTASTICALLY, FANTASTICAL!!! This was a fantastic show. This podcast quickly has become my favorite. Keep it up!

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. This episode quite possibly could be the best so far. And that’s saying something because there have been some great ones.

That picture is awesome! I can’t wait to get home so I can listen to this.

Ray May 4, 2010 at 12:26 pm

I heart Stan Lee! That was awesome! =-D Everything I’ve read about him has said he’s such a nice guy, but I never got to know it until now. It’s great when an icon like Stan Lee lives up to the hype and awesome surrounding him. He really understands how into comics his fans can get because he’s so into them too. Hooray for Stan The Man. Excelsior!

I’m so jealous of you being able to meet this legend. This was an amazing and fun podcast. A joy to listen to.

Stephen May 4, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Nice photoshopping of your “hand” spraying goo on an old man.
I knew you had a perverted side, Hardwick.

Chris Hardwick May 4, 2010 at 3:21 pm

Hey thanks guys!

Thanks for the photoshop props, Stephen! But really Mike Phirman deserves the credit for the web. I did the rest of it, but a convincing web was just outside my ‘Shop skills so I turned to Phirm, who is a damn Jedi at it.

Patti May 4, 2010 at 5:31 pm

That was wonderful!! How great must it have been for you to talk to such a legend. What a sweet guy, too. I also love that photo very much. Mad props to Mike for the awesome web. Thanks so much for doing these podcasts. This one really rates.

WOW…….two iconic stars, great job Chris, but is it just me or do we need some funny ladies……hint??? Chelsea Handler, just saying but, her brilliant sarcasm is enough to make me go around and criticize everyone….LOL!!!!

Patman2 May 4, 2010 at 7:27 pm

YEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!*

*He says as he hulks out while grabbing a webline attached to Thors Hammer that was propelled by Iron Man’s repulsor ray into a bank of AWESOME!

Brand Hauser May 4, 2010 at 7:45 pm

I like Stan Lee, but he came off like a blow-hard douche bag in this interview. Flame away fan boys!

Chris Hardwick May 4, 2010 at 11:11 pm

Brand, he only came off that way if you don’t understand the concept of irony. I’m so sorry for the terrible accident you must have suffered to have lost that part of your brain.

Please take care of yourself,
chris

Deanna May 4, 2010 at 11:31 pm

Chris, Fantastic episode! Stan Lee was great! He did not come off like a blow hard, he came off as someone who was having a good time!! I really enjoy the podcasts, I listen to them over and over. I think they are funny , but also interesting and cover some really Fascinating topics. If you ever come to Northern CA, I’ll be there! Thanks for all of the entertainment!

Take care, Deanna

Andrew May 5, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Don’t worry Chris, I got the TARDIS reference. And I even laughed too! Glad to know I’m not the only one who wants to bring up the Doctor in as many conversations as possible!

Mark May 7, 2010 at 6:36 am

This interview makes every cameo Stan Lee has done in his movies even better. Especially his role in Mallrats, he wasn’t acting, he’s just that cool!

luke May 7, 2010 at 6:42 am

This was a team-up long over due. Stan Lee was just a joy. Chris, you and Stan had a great chemistry, he totally gets it. This episode also showcased your ever expanding interviewing skills.

Ray May 7, 2010 at 8:26 am

That was a fantastic pod cast…now after listening to this one and Wil Wheaton’s recent RFB I get to thinking that he will be your super secret guest in the upcoming pod cast….just surmising. Keep up the great work.

DirtyBrazilian May 7, 2010 at 5:47 pm
