Hey Design Nerds! I’m about to order a new batch of Nerdist business minicards from my favorite card makin’ company moo.com and I would like to include YOUR design! I will use EVERY piece of art submitted within the correct guidelines for moo’s tiny rectangular cards (below). My only request is that you involve the word “Nerdist.”
I think user-generated artwork definitely jives with the vibe of the site and I am looking forward to seeing what the Nerdist concept means to you!
Make all GIF, PNG, JPEG or PDF submissions to stuff@nerdist.com. You can follow the artwork guidelines below while simply usingthis template!
Artwork guidelines
Full Bleed size

- 2.91″ x 1.26″ (300dpi)
Final size when trimmed

FUN.
Prepare yourself for the best business cards, well, The best business cards you’ve ever seen.
can we draw dicks on them?
When’s the submission deadline?
You’re going to use *every* file submitted that meets the guidelines and contains the word “nerdist”? MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
This is just asking for trouble…
Soon heel be outsourcing his jokes as well!
I remember when people use to get paid for work like this…
Can I email the invoice in once you’ve printed them?
i agree, using all submissions is just asking for trouble lol…
I almost must agree with Charles.
Design your own business cards! Geeesh.
Can we write jokes about YOU and incorporate them in the design?
Geeesh is RIGHT! Just thought it would be an easy, fun communal project. And I’m sorry that some of you feel like I’m taking advantage of your talents. It’s too bad it didn’t occur to you that I might be using this as a way to find new artists from which to commission work (which I do a lot). An audition that uses a tiny 1×3 card is hardly a rape of the design community. One option is: just don’t do it! Put all that “complaining on comment thread” energy into your other work!
Everyone else, I am loving the submissions! Thank you in massive heaps!
Alan: Yes.
Hey, neat. Chris reads comments. *waves like a retarded fanboy*

Visit no-spec to see how much graphic designers are insulted by people asking for free work. Even if it’s an audition. Many times the audition goes to final output and we see nothing in terms of pay or credit.
So many think because they know who to use Photoshop that they are automatically a graphic designer. The create bad work that clients love because they work for cheap.
What is the due date for this project?
you should link a high resolution photo of yourself we can use.
ignore this if you don’t want a photo of yourself on your own cards… totally understandable.
I made a mock-up header with “fancy” Apple/iPhone-esque lettering.
I could still add more like “nerdist.com / @nerdist” below, but the title is the main graphic.

(if you want the full .psd file just send me a message)
Totally understand Liza. I can see how that is frustrating, especially as a comic and performer who does a lot of “favors” for people with their shows and videos. Still, I certainly hope no one feels like I’m trying to take advantage of them. I’m not going to try to profit from anyone’s design. Again, just thought it would be a fun, silly thing for people to do.
Are you going to post a gallery of the submissions you received? I’d love to see what people did (and I’m guessing I won’t be getting one of your biz cards any time soon.)
Chris, I am by no means insulted by your request nor think you might be wanting to take advantage of someone’s talents. I would have completely ignored the request; I’ve got to pay for student loans, etc (gosh Macs & Adobe programs are expensive). You’re response to our reaction was the reason for my post. To explain why we respond like that.
Are you going to be using the business card with the graphic on 1 side and info on the other? I assume that is the case but for the sake of size and design that would be helpful to know.

Whoops, sorry about that. Forgot to actually READ the instructions. I put Nerdist on it now (in 3 places).
…and don’t worry about “taking advantage” of me, I’ve got Too Much Time On My Hands. *clap* *clap*
I’ve got some of that free time, too. I’ve already sent in 4 submissions!
Oh and I’m in no way shape or form an expert. I am not a graphic designer, however I dabble a bit. I’d be honored if anyone used something I designed for, well, anything!
I would also like to see a gallery of all submissions. I think that’d be an awesome idea. Should also make you feel special to see how many people love you, Chris.
A gallery would be awesome for something like this. Especially to say “hey i submitted that one!”
One last thing…after you get them all printed, will we all be rewarded with a shot of you rolling on your bed covered in them…like Demi Moore did with that wad o’ cash?
Really wish I had the time, I kept thinking that it would be an awesome project. Plus I had this great though of you flying over at he castle wall at King Arthur’s troops in Monty Python’s The Holy Grail via cowtapult. Mostly all about the cowtapult. You know, less images with copyright laws and such that could lead to imprisonment.
So, being a busy graphic artist, I’ve been putting this off….Is it too late to submit art? If so, you should keep my name around / contact me for that “commission work” you were talking about earlier.
Thanks!
