New Weird Al Video "Skipper Dan"!

by Chris Hardwick on July 13, 2009

In keeping with his “Internet Release Summer,” W.A. Yankovic has just released a new video entitled “Skipper Dan,” which was deftly animated by Wunder Animatrix Divya Srinivasan, who also was kind enough to animate Hard ‘n Phirm’s tribute to Elvis Presley, “Death of the King.” I’m going to go buy several hats so that I can then take them off to these two wonderful individuals!

Gee thanks, Chris, for showing me this. I’m gonna go cry myself into oblivion now.

Seriously, that killed me inside.

Why Weird Al, why!? Dx

(Sorry for the double. Seems you can’t delete things.)

Next to The Haunted Mansion and Pirates the Jungle Cruise ride is the best thing out there

at first i thought, this is pretty funny, then it turned seriously depressing. good song, just sad. and then i’m left wondering why skipper dan DIDN’T try to go back to broadway, why are so many people hung up on hollywood which is only concerned about “good looks” as opposed to talent. and then i realized i put way too much thought into a fictional character from a weird al song

I think maybe W.A. has been listening to some Jonathan Coulton.

Sam Swanson July 13, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Oh god, it’s like he captured my personal future in this song. Gaaahhhh…

Colleenky July 13, 2009 at 3:09 pm

OMG. Weird Al wrote a Jonathan Coulton song!

Virgil July 13, 2009 at 3:53 pm

That was awesome. Thanks for posting it Chris.

It’s not a Jonathan Coulton song, it’s a Fountains of Wayne song.

meepzmcgee July 13, 2009 at 10:02 pm

I was thinking Jonathan Coulton as well, but I guess Fountains of Wayne makes sense too.

Yeah, it struck me as ‘Coultonesque’ I’m pretty sure Al would be a Coulton fan, nice to hear him as an influence!

Both Weird Al and Divya Srinivasan get big WIN juice on that one. Huzzah!

wondering if you had seen this http://movies.msn.com/cinemash/ ?

M_pony July 16, 2009 at 6:06 am

It’s totally a JoCoesque song. That’s a -good- thing :)

Vid = awesome. Really depressing, but I think that’s why I like it. Being a fan of grunge and all, depressing songs tend to make me feel better. Makes me feel better because my life could be worse, I suppose. :P

Yeah, it must be FoW. I knew it was someone like that and I kept thinking Weezer + They Might Be Giants, with a splash of Presidents of the USA.

And, it didn’t have to be happy, but it could’ve had an ending. XD

mella July 22, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Gosh that’s sad… is Weird Al feeling okay???
