End Of The World LHC-Style!
by Chris Hardwick on September 9, 2008
Will the Large Hadron Collider scheduled to go online at CERN Wednesday bring about the END OF THE WORLD by sucking us into a man-made BLACK HOLE??? No. No, it won’t. Probably. In any case, I chatted with the very brainy Alexis Madrigal, who in addition to being a staff science writer for wired.com is also a really nice guy.
Science!

omgoose!
maybe the world will end before chem lab tomorrow!
*yay*
Ha! I heard (I think on AOTS actually) that people were going out, Y2K style, and buying up supplies. If the LHC creates a blackhole that sucks us into ourselves, what good would having a crapload of supplies do? Nada!
Really? Would an accident with the earthly super collider could cause/create a massive gravitational body like a black hole? I must consult my Hawking book. I’m not worried.
Nice loop and overall work on AOTS Chris btw, you are superior on the show I must say.
I always felt the end of the world would start in the great old U.S.A., but I’m glad we can now blame it on western Europe.
Well, it was good knowing all of you.
nope, still here.
i heard they will actually collide the protons sometime before christmas?
jeez, what a downer.
It turns out they had to shut it down right after turning it on! What does Madrigal say to that? Everyody knows that guy is in the pocket of Big Black Hole.
