It's caught on quickly with my friends. Note to the new users- combining with friends works a bit like becoming a Wii friend. Friends who install it won't just show up in your profile. You can combine, but you can't always tell when a friend has combined with you unless you go to the app, check who has combined with you, and you combine them in turn on your own time if you want them to show up in your profile.
